Critical Skills Work Visa
Skilled foreign national professionals with identified skills or rather scares in South Africa, must also fall under the critical skills category as set out in the Gazetted Critical Skills list issued by the Department of Home Affairs.
General Work Visa
Applicant must have either an employment offer/employed by a South African company and approved by the Department of labour with proof that the positions could not be fulfilled by a South African citizen, subject to assessment. It is valid for the duration of the contract of employment or a period not exceeding 5 years.
Intra-Company Transfer
A company can transfer an existing employee from a foreign branch to a branch in South Africa for a period of 4 years, however should the subsidiary or Affiliate Company in South Africa requires the services of the assignee for a further period, an application for a new intra-company work visa needs to be submitted. Such applications must, however, be submitted at the South African Mission in the applicant’s country of origin or of permanent residence.
Spousal/Life partner Visa
Foreign national who is legally married or in a permanent relationship with a South African citizen/permanent residence holder is permitted to reside in South Africa on the basis of their relationship.
Relative’s Visa
an immediate family member of a South African citizen or permanent resident holder can qualify with condition that the relative can be able to sustain the applicant financially whilst they reside in South Africa.
Study Visa
Enrolled/accepted to take up studies at a registered educational institute in South Africa. It is valid for the duration of the course for which it is issued and may work part-time for no more than 20 hours per week.
Business Visa
Foreigners who are contemplating investing in the South African economy by establishing a business or by investing in an existing business in the country will be required to invest a prescribed financial capital contribution of R5 million.
Retired Person’s Visa
Requires a monthly income of R37,000 form a pension, irrevocable annuity, or a net worth/combination of assets, may not earn a salary.
Corporate Visa
A corporate entity/company (e.g. a mine group, farmer, etc.) to employ a pre-determined number of skilled/semi-skilled/unskilled workers.
Visitor’s Visa
Gives travellers’ permission to enter South Africa on a temporary basis for Visit to family or friends and Tourism purposes.
The Financial independence permit
In order to apply, a minimum net worth contemplated in regulation 23(11) of R12 million must be proven to the Director-General.
Volunteers Visa
Foreigner are awarded an opportunity to carry out voluntary or charitable activities in South Africa for a period exceeding 3 months to 3 years, however, must not earn a salary.
Medical Visa
Allows foreign nationals a permission to enter South Africa on a temporary basis for medical purposes.
Permanent residence
This category of permit is applicable to foreigners who have been residing in South Africa on the basis of their work permits, spouses and also to dependents of South African citizens/permanent residence permit holders.
